Why control grapevine pests and pathogens?

These attacks can lead to significant losses, representing 20% to 40% of total profits for farmers worldwide.

What is biocontrol?
Biocontrol (alternative methods for controlling field pests and diseases) involves the strategic use of microbial pheromones (from bacteria, yeasts, fungi, and viruses) and other microbial metabolites to regulate and control pest and pathogen populations in agriculture. These tactics not only mitigate the negative effects of harmful agents in vineyards, but also help avoid the environmental impact associated with chemical use.
These control methods offer a sustainableand “clean” solution for pest and pathogen management—prioritizing both vineyard health and the environment. These microorganisms—mostly soil-derived—play a crucial role in nutrient bioavailability for crops, increasing the volume explored by roots and improving access to water.
